Another one from my archive of random thoughts:
It’s easier than ever to start being a Creator, but what happens when Creators want to stop?
Like many traditional business owners, Creators will work extremely hard over many years to build up an asset (their following). But unlike traditional business owners, when Creators are ready to move onto something new, it’s extremely difficult for them to sell their asset. This is especially difficult for creators that have their personality deeply tied into the asset they’ve built (e.g. a YouTuber that appears in all of the videos on their channel).
Simply put, Creator assets suffer from a liquidity problem.
Beyond the financial disadvantage of suffering from liquidity risk, this reality also can lead to the suffocating feeling of having created a “job you can’t quit”.
How might we make it easier for creators to exit or pivot?
